Tealights that Tell a Story from Luna Lighting
By Josie Mills
Anna Perring, founder of Luna Lighting, is a ceramic designer of playful ivory-white porcelain tealights. Anna has been developing her designs since 2006 to capture the purity of porcelain that make people smile. By placing a flickering candle inside Anna’s tealights her designs shine out, creating a magical atmosphere. All hand made in her Central London studio with the throwing lines clearly visible, they are highly covetable and collectable with new designs constantly evolving. Anna’s popularity speaks for itself; her tealight designs are one of our most popular items on the eshop!
Luna Lighting is the definition of beautiful made simple. Anna’s tealights make for the perfect gifts, combining the handmade personal touch with designs for every occasion. Anna makes sure to cater for every taste, with heart, flower, animal and home designs, Luna Lighting’s tealights are the perfect gift for family, friends and partners.
Handmade is something special in today’s world, and that is what makes Luna Lighting stand out from the rest. Anna has created several unique wedding and anniversary commissions which include names, dates and special motifs to go that extra mile to make your occasion that more special. Anna recalls a kangaroo design she made specially for a wedding in Australia, a racquet for a couple who met at a tennis club and even a pair of steam trains for railway enthusiast twin brothers!
Another particularly fond memory was when Anna was asked to make an Eiffel Tower tea light for a parents’ golden wedding anniversary gift – having honeymooned in Paris 50 years previously, this commission was adored by the couple. Even though Anna loves those ‘light bulb moments’ when a design pops into her head, sometimes the best ideas come from client’s themselves!
One of Anna’s most recent additions to the Hidden Art E-shop is the Hedgehog Tealight. What makes this tealight so special is the story behind the design. At a friends’ dinner Anna was introduced to their pet hedgehog who had scuttled away under her feet at the table. As soon as Anna held him in her hand and watched its little nose twitch, Anna had to replicate him on her tealights! Now one of her best sellers, it is these simple yet beautiful designs that make Luna Lighting’s tealights special.
Anna fell in love with ceramics and designing after she had her second child and was persuaded by her friend to go to a pottery class. The first Luna tea lights were conceived in 2006, but Anna’s business really took off when she moved into her studio at Cockpit Arts. From there Anna turned her passion into a business and hasn’t looked back since.
